![]() I thought Sonic Mania was amazing when it came out last year! Mania Plus continues to be just as great and makes us even more excited for the inevitable sequel!!! Love the new little details like the new cutscenes/stage background and color changes in encore mode! Mania Plus truly is a golden return to form for Classic Sonic and something that can't not be skipped, for a Modern/Classic/Adventure Sonic fan or a fan of momentum platforming in general. There's still more surprises in store, but they're more fun t be discovered in person than told about in text. ![]() And that's not mentioning the godly music by Tee Lopes and the already great level design by Stealth, Taxman and the team already found in Mania. There are new cheat codes that allow creative manipulations of gameplay and so much more. ![]() Ray is like the cape in Super Mario World, and gliding is fun to control when you get the hang of it allowing for ridiculous speedruns of acts. So Mighty and Ray: Mighty is like an easy mode where Spikes don't initially hurt him, and he has a ground pound, which allows him to reach new areas below ground. ![]() You can recover characters in certain item boxes and in the new Bonus Stages, a pinball minigame like the bonus tables in Sonic Spinball crossed with the character select in Knuckles' Chaotix. (think of shared stock in Subspace Emissary in SSB Brawl). You don't have lives per say but a shared life system where every time you die, the character you were currently using is lost and you immediately continue with the characters you have remaining. The new palettes really pour new life into the stages, and tweaked areas in zones make stages feel new enough without feeling completely foreign. They are not nearly as easy as Mania Modes. So encore mode: 7 new special stages which are difficult. Plus is $5 if you have the base game, which is a great price, and $30 to buy the entire physical package (comes with art-book, reversible cover, shiny reflective box cover) where the orignal base Digital copy was $20. Plus adds Encore Mode, Mighty and Ray and several tweaks (the Menu update and missing level transitions, which are already available free if you don't have plus) and more. tl dr Great update to an already great game.
